Whiter Than Snow

When the snow arrived on a recent Saturday morning, it was a refreshing sight. Our children desired more than anything to go outside and play in the snow. They started talking about all the things they were going to do, even eat it! We cautioned them about not eating the first snow since it acts as a cleansing agent against the pollution in the air. This reminded me of how Jesus acts as the cleansing agent against the pollution of sin within our hearts and minds.

So for our devotion first thing in the morning, before going out in the snow, we sang the song "Whiter Than Snow". The lyrics to this song are below:

Verse 1:
Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole;
I want Thee forever to live in my soul;
Break down every idol, cast out every foe—
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus:
Whiter than snow, yes, whiter than snow,
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Verse 2:
Lord Jesus, let nothing unholy remain,
Apply Thine own blood and extract every stain;
To get this blest cleansing, I all things forego—
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus

Verse 3:
Lord Jesus, look down from Thy throne in the skies,
And help me to make a complete sacrifice;
I give up myself, and whatever I know—
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus

Verse 4:
Lord Jesus, for this I most humbly entreat,
I wait, blessed Lord, at Thy crucified feet,
By faith for my cleansing, I see thy blood flow—
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus

Verse 5:
Lord Jesus, Thou seest I patiently wait;
Come now and within me a new heart create;
To those who have sought Thee Thou never said’st “No”—
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus

Verse 6:
The blessing by faith, I receive from above;
Oh, glory! my soul is made perfect in love;
My prayer has prevailed, and this moment I know,
The blood is applied, I am whiter than snow.

We also read from Psalm 51:7 which states: "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

Isn't it wonderful to know that you can be cleansed from the pollution of this world (e.g., sin)? Isn't is wonderful to know that your sins can be forgiven and cast as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12)? Isn't is wonderful that Jesus can create a clean heart and renew a right spirit in you (Psalm 51:9-12)? Isn't it wonderful to know that God loved every person in this world enough to send His only begotton Son to die on a cross for us (John 3:16)? Isn't it wonderful to know that you can be forgiven of your sins and become a new creature (II Corinthians 5:17)? Isn't it wonderful to know that you can start your life over by repenting and being born again (Luke 13:3,5; John 3:3)? I am thankful that Jesus cleansed me from the sin and wickedness in my life. I pray the same for my children and everyone person in this world!
