Book Review: Language Lessons for a Living Education 2

According to Master Books, Language Lessons for a Living Education 2 is a Charlotte Mason flavored approach to elementary language arts. One will enjoy an engaging and effective language arts program for their elementary student. Students will move beyond pages of text and memorization to make real-world connections. This exciting new series will help guide your young learner toward mastery of reading, grammar, and vocabulary, as well as the mechanics of communication and writing. Utilizing phonics, observation, and reading comprehension through poems, stories, and real books as the foundation, your student will start writing basic sentences.

Language arts can be challenging for many students, therefore having a creative way to engage the student is essential. I believe Master Books has done well in providing Language Lessons for a Living Education 2. This approach is a great way to teach reading, grammar, and vocabulary. For example, I really like how the lessons are basic and simple. Each lesson only takes 20 to 30 minutes according to the book which is an encouraging amount of time when "school-time" can be limited during certain parts of the day, especially with little ones. Also, given the attention span of many people are maximized if less than 50 minutes, I think this time target is a good idea.

I also like the ability to read aloud and also have the student read along with you. It is easy for the student to interject for reading by highlighted sentences within the reading paragraphs. This encourages working together, building relationships, and increases reading comprehension and engagement of the student.

Another aspect that is beneficial is the student gets to create their own dictionary. This is where improvement for writing, memorization, and vocabulary can be achieved and in a fun and engaging way.

In addition to all the benefits of this curriculum, incorporating Bible into the Language Arts study is helpful as well in order to plant the seeds of scripture into both the parent and the child.
